Rimadyl® caplets

Product contains:

Carprofen

Product indications:

Rimadyl® is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. It is also used to treat post-operative pain associated with soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures.

Dosage and administration:

Give 2mg/lb (4.4mg/kg) daily in single or divided doses, or as otherwise directed by your veterinarian. The tablets are scored and can be broken in half by placing on a hard surface and pressing down on both sides of the score.

Warnings, side effects and potential drug interactions:

  • Rimadyl is generally well tolerated by dogs using oral administration, however it should not be given to dogs demonstrating a previous allergic reaction to carprofen.

  • NSAIDs can generally be associated with kidney and gastrointestinal toxicity. The most commonly reported reactions are vomiting and diarrhea (occasionally bloody). Additional adverse reactions can include decreased appetite, increased water consumption, increased urination, anemia, jaundice (liver damage), lethargy, loss of co-ordination, seizures, and behavioral changes. In rare situations, death has been reported.

  • Approximately one quarter of the reports of liver damage have involved Labrador Retrievers.

  • Rimadyl should not be given concurrently with drugs which could exacerbate toxicity, such as corticosteroids, other NSAIDs or any drugs known to be toxic to kidneys.

  • Rimadyl is not recommended for use with dogs suffering from bleeding disorders.

  • The safety of Rimadyl use in dogs less than six weeks old, in pregnant or lactating animals, or those used for breeding has not been established.

  • Care should be taken if administering with other drugs which are highly protein-bound or metabolized through the liver, as this may increase the availability of the drug and cause adverse effects. Should any adverse effects be noted during treatment, Rimadyl should be discontinued and a veterinarian contacted for assistance.

Storage:

Rimadyl tablets should be stored at controlled room temperature, 59-86°F (15-30°C).
