Previcox™ chewable tablets

Product contains:

Firocoxib

Product indications:

Previcox chewable tablets are used to control pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.

Dosage and administration:

  • Give 2.27 mg/lb (5 mg/kg) of body weight orally once per day, or as directed by your veterinarian.

  • The tablets are scored and dosage should be calculated to the nearest half tablet.

  • Previcox may be administered with or without food.

Warnings, side effects and potential drug interactions:

  • Previcox should not be used in dogs previously found to be hypersensitive (allergic) to firocoxib or other NSAIDs.

  • Since many other medications possess the potential to induce gastrointestinal ulceration or kidney dysfunction, concurrent use of Previcox with other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as other NSAIDs and corticosteroids, should be avoided or closely monitored.

  • The use of Previcox concurrently with other protein-bound drugs, such as heart, anticonvulsant, and behavioral medications has not been studied in dogs. Previcox has been safely used in trials in conjunction with anthelmintics, and antibiotics Drug compatibility should be monitored by your veterinarian where an animal requires multiple medications.

  • The safety of Previcox has not been investigated in breeding, pregnant or lactating animals.

  • Due to tablet sizes and scoring, dogs weighing less than seven pounds cannot be accurately dosed with Previcox.

  • As with other NSAIDs, Previcox may exacerbate clinical signs in dogs with pre-existing gastrointestinal, liver, heart or blood abnormalities, or bleeding disorders. NSAIDs may be associated with gastrointestinal and kidney toxicity. Those dogs at greatest risk for kidney toxicity are those that are dehydrated, on concomitant diuretic therapy, or those with kidney, heart, and/or liver disease.

  • Adverse reactions at the recommended dose may include decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy/sleepiness and behavioral changes (such as hyperactivity). Overdoses may result in the effects listed above, along with pain, bleeding problems, liver disease, gastrointestinal ulcers, damage to parts of the brain, weight loss and death.

  • Overdosing with this medication in puppies less than seven months of age (in particular) has been associated with serious adverse reactions, including death.

  • Serious adverse reactions associated with NSAIDs can occur without warning and in rare situations, may result in death. Discontinue Previcox therapy and contact your veterinarian immediately if signs of intolerance are observed.

  • Not for use in humans. Keep this and all medications out of reach of children.
