Product contains:
Deracoxib
Product indications:
Deramaxx® is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. It may also be used to control post-operative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery.
Dosage and administration:
For osteoarthritis treatment: give 0.45-0.91 mg/lb (1-2mg/kg) once daily, or as instructed by your veterinarian.
For post-operative pain relief: give 1.4mg-1.8mg/lb (3-4mg/kg) once daily, as needed for up to seven days, or as otherwise directed by your veterinarian.
The tablets are scored and can be easily broken in half for accurate dosing.
Warnings, side effects and potential drug interactions:
Deramaxx should not be used with dogs displaying a previous allergic reaction to deracoxib. The drug is related to sulphonamide antibiotics, but it has not been determined whether animals exhibiting allergies to this class of antibiotic will also demonstrate an allergy to deracoxib.
Generally, NSAIDs are associated with kidney and gastrointestinal toxicity. The most commonly reported reactions are vomiting, anorexia and diarrhea (sometimes bloody). In post-approval experience, additional adverse events reported include: nausea, anemia, liver problems, seizures, lethargy, eye abnormalities and skin reactions. On rare occasions, death has been reported.
Deramaxx should not be given with any drugs which could exacerbate toxicity, such as corticosteroids, other NSAIDs, or any drugs known to be toxic to kidneys.
The safe us of Deramaxx in dogs less than four months old, with pregnant or lactating animals, or those used for breeding has not been established. Care should be taken if administering with other drugs which are highly protein-bound or metabolized through the liver, as this may increase the availability of the drug and cause adverse effects.
Deramaxx has been safely used in conjunction with other common medications, including heartworm preventatives, wormers, anesthetics, pre-anesthetic medications, and antibiotics. Should any adverse effects be noted during treatment, Deramaxx should be discontinued and a veterinarian contacted for assistance.
Storage:
Deramaxx tablets should be stored at controlled room temperature, 59-86°F(15-30°C).
