Animax® Ointment

Product contains:

Nystatin, neomycin sulfate, thiostrepton & triamcinolone acetonide

Product indications:

Animax® Ointment is intended to treat a variety of skin disorders suffered by dogs and cats. It is especially useful in disorders caused, complicated, or threatened by bacterial and/or candidal infection.

Dosage and administration:

  • Apply the product as often as directed by your veterinarian. Ensure the full course of medication is completed. Wear gloves when administering the ointment, or wash hands immediately after application.

  • Otitis: Clean your pet's ear canal of impacted ear wax. Instill three to five drops of Animax Ointment. Preliminary use of a local anesthetic may be advisable.

  • Infected anal glands, cystic areas, etc.: Drained glands should be filled with Animax Ointment.

  • Other skin disorders: Clean affected areas, removing any encrusted discharge or fluids. Apply Animax Ointment sparingly in a thin film.

  • The cap can be used to puncture the seal on the bottle when opening.

Warnings, side effects and potential drug interactions:

  • Animax Ointment is not intended to treat deep abscesses, puncture wounds, serious burns or deep-seated infections. It should not be used if pus is present in a wound, as the drug may allow infection to spread.

  • Animax should not be used in ears featuring ruptured ear drums, to avoid the possibility of transmitting infection to the middle ear or damaging your pet's delicate hearing and balance apparatus. If hearing loss or balance problems are noted during the course of treatment, stop using the Animax Ointment and contact your veterinarian.

  • Skin reactions are rare when using Animax, however sensitivity to neomycin has been recorded. If redness, irritation, or swelling of the treated area persists or increases, stop using the product and contact your veterinarian.

  • There is some evidence that corticosteroids (such as triamcinolone) can be absorbed after topical application and cause systemic effects. Cushing's syndrome has been reported in association with prolonged or repeated corticosteroid therapy in dogs. Inhibition of the body's own steroid production following withdrawal of the drug may occur.

  • Corticosteroids may induce the first stage of the birth process if used during the last trimester of pregnancy and may precipitate premature labor, which may be associated with complications. Additionally, corticosteroids administered to dogs, rabbits and rodents during pregnancy have resulted in birth defects in the young.

  • Do not use Animax Ointment in your pet's eyes.
