Product indications:
Advantage Multi™ for dogs is a monthly topical medication for the prevention of heartworm disease, treatment of flea infestations, as well as the treatment and control of intestinal roundworm, hookworm and whipworm infections in dogs and puppies.
Dosage and administration:
Dose one applicator tube of Advantage Multi for dogs, of the appropriate weight range for the treated animal each month. The solution should be applied to the skin, divided between one to four spots along the animal's back line, (depending on the volume of liquid applied and the size of the dog) from the base of the neck to the upper back in an area where is cannot be licked off.
Note: dogs over 88lbs should be treated with an appropriate combination of pack sizes of Advantage Multi for Dogs.
For prevention of heartworm disease, Advantage Multi for dogs should preferably be administered year-round. At a minimum, monthly treatment should commence at least one month prior to the first expected exposure to mosquitoes and continue until at least one month after the last exposure to mosquitoes.
Warnings, side effects and potential drug interactions:
Advantage Multi for dogs is recommended for dogs and puppies more than seven weeks of age and weighing more than three pounds. It should be used cautiously with sick, debilitated or underweight animals. The safety of this product has not been established with breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs.
Advantage Multi for dogs should not be used with cats as it contains a higher concentration of moxidectin, which may be toxic to this species.
Advantage Multi should not be applied to irritated skin.
Ensure that Advantage Multi does not contact your dog's mouth or eyes. The treated dog and any other in-contact animals should not be allowed to lick the treatment site for at least 30 minutes following application. Note that for a short time after the product is applied skin may appear pink and hair at the application site may become stiff, damp or powdery.
Advantage Multi will kill adult fleas on dogs, however in a contaminated environment, pre-existing pupae may continue emerge from cocoons and re-infest animals for six weeks or longer after treatment is initiated.
Advantage Multi for dogs should be kept out of reach of children. Children should not be allowed to touch the application site on treated pets for at least two hours following application. Owners should avoid contact of this product with eyes or skin; it may be harmful if swallowed.
Dogs should be tested for heartworm infection prior to commencement of treatment with Advantage Multi. This product is not effective against adult heartworms (D. immitis), nor is it effective for microfilariae clearance.
Advantage Multi should not be given orally. Accidental oral ingestion of this product in dogs has been associated with adverse reactions, including salivation, dilated pupils, depression and lethargy, loss of co-ordination, panting, agitation, muscle tremors, nervous signs, coma, or even death.
Overdosing of the medication can be expected to cause similar clinical signs. Collie-type dogs and crosses are more susceptible to overdosing of this medication than other breeds of dog.
On rare occasions, one or more of the following have been observed in treated dogs: itchiness, lethargy, loss of appetite, hyperactivity, vomiting, diarrhea (including bloody), coughing, salivation, loss of co-ordination, varied allergic reactions and ocular or nasal discharge. It was not established in the majority of cases that the effects observed were associated with Advantage Multi treatment.
Advantage Multi for dogs has been used safely with dogs receiving other medications including: ACE inhibitors, anticonvulsants, antihistamines, antibiotics, joint supplements, corticosteroids, MAO inhibitors, NSAIDs, eye medications, synthetic estrogens, thyroid hormones, and urinary acidifiers.
Storage:
Store at temperatures between 4°C (39°F) and 30°C (86°F), avoiding excess heat or cold.
